Terms and conditions
The rules for using Credible
Last updated: 4 November 2026 · Version 0.2 (draft)
1. About these terms
These terms are between you and ONCREDIBLE (registration number 2026/849119/07) ("Credible", "we", "us"). They apply to our website at oncredible.co.za, our web application, and any related services (together, "the Service"). By creating an account, opening a deal link, or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Our contact details are in section 21. How we handle your personal information is explained in our Privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
2. What Credible is — and is not
Credible looks after a sale between two people who found each other online until it is complete. The buyer's money is held by our independent escrow partner, currently Trade-Safe Holdings (Pty) Ltd, trading as TradeSafe Escrow ("TradeSafe"), not by Credible. The seller sends the item, and when the buyer accepts it or the check period ends, we instruct TradeSafe to release the money to the seller.
- We are not a marketplace. We do not list goods, run searches, rate sellers or sell anything ourselves. A deal is created by one person and joined by the other through a link.
- We are not a party to the sale. The sale is between the buyer and the seller. We do not own, inspect, store or deliver the goods, and we do not guarantee their quality, condition, legality or description. What we do is look after the deal, tell our escrow partner where the money goes, and follow the rules in these terms.
- Your role is per deal. You may be the buyer in one deal and the seller in another.
- Our escrow partner holds the money. TradeSafe is a registered third-party payment provider. It holds buyers' money in a dedicated escrow account at a South African bank and pays it out on our instructions. When you pay for or are paid for a deal, you also agree to TradeSafe's terms of use (tradesafe.co.za), which govern how it holds and pays out the money. Where they differ from these terms about the deal itself (the check period, disputes, what counts as delivered), these terms and our decisions apply.
- We may change escrow partner. If we do, deals already paid stay with the partner that holds their money until they finish. We will tell you before a new deal uses a different partner.
3. Your account
- You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time code we send you. Keep your phone and your codes private; you are responsible for what is done with your account.
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a binding agreement.
- What you tell us must be true and kept up to date. Your legal name must be your own.
- Anyone with a deal link can look at the deal. To accept a deal, pay, or be paid, you need an account.
- Buyers need a verified mobile number.Sellers must also verify their identity (South African ID or passport, and a selfie check) and add a bank account in their own name before we can pay them. We may ask for more checks, and may limit the value of deals while you are new.
- One person, one account, one login. You may not share your login, or create accounts to get around a limit, a suspension or a decision about a deal.
- We act on instructions that come from your account, including when someone else has got into it, unless you told us first. If you think someone has your phone or your codes, tell us straight away (section 21).
- We may ask for more information at any time to meet our legal duties (for example under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act), including identity documents and bank details. If you do not provide it, we may limit or end your access, and we may hold a payout until you do. We may share this information with the authorities where the law requires it.
- Larger deals. For a deal worth more than R500,000 we may require documents that support the sale (for example an invoice, agreement or proof of ownership). For a deal worth more than R5,000,000 we also screen everyone in the deal against sanctions and politically-exposed-person lists, using a verification partner. We may hold the deal until these checks are done.
4. Creating and agreeing a deal
- One person creates a deal, describing the item honestly (what it is, its condition, the price, shipping, how it will be delivered, and how long the buyer has to check it). The other person accepts it, declines it, or suggests changes.
- The agreed terms are frozen and recorded when both people have agreed. Any later change to the price, delivery or other terms needs the other person to agree again, and each version is kept.
- A deal that is not accepted or paid in time expires. We show the deadline on the deal.
- A link or deal code is a way into the deal. Share it only with the person you are dealing with.
5. Items you may not sell
You may not use Credible for anything that is illegal to sell, buy, send or possess in South Africa, or that we reasonably believe is harmful. This includes firearms and ammunition, illegal drugs, counterfeit or stolen goods, live animals, and anything else the law prohibits or restricts. We may cancel a deal, hold its money, or report it to the authorities if we believe a prohibited item is involved.
6. Fees
- Credible charges a protection fee on each deal. You see the fee, and who pays it, before you pay. By default the buyer pays it, and the seller receives the full asking price.
- The fee pays for the protection we give both the buyer and the seller, so it is kept once the buyer's payment has been secured(section 7) — whatever happens next: release, a refund, a decision on a dispute, the seller not shipping, or a cancellation you both agree to. If the deal expires or is cancelled before the buyer's payment is secured, no fee is charged.
- Payment fee. Depending on how you pay (bank EFT, instant EFT or card), the payment provider charges a fee. The buyer pays it, on top of the deal amount, and sees it before paying. It is not part of the money held for the deal, it is not Credible's fee, and it is not refunded if the deal is later refunded, because the payment provider has already charged it.
- Your own bank, card provider or courier may charge you separately. Those charges are not ours.
- Fees may change for future deals. A change never affects a deal you have already agreed.
7. Paying
- The buyer pays the full amount shown: the price, shipping, the buyer's share of our fee, and the payment fee for the way they choose to pay. You pay on our escrow partner's secure payment page. Your payment goes to TradeSafe, never to Credible or the seller.
- Your money is "secured" only when our escrow partner confirms to us that it has been received for the deal — not when you start paying, not when you return from the payment page, and not when your bank shows it as sent. Until then, the seller is told to wait.
- If the amount received is not the amount owed, or it arrives after the deal has expired or changed, the deal is not funded. We will return what we cannot match.
- Pay only through Credible, and only to the details we give you. We are not responsible for money you send anywhere else, and a deal paid outside Credible is not protected by these terms.
- A screenshot or "proof of payment" is not payment. We count only money that has actually reached our escrow partner and been matched to the deal. Banks can take time to clear a payment, and we cannot speed that up.
- A seller should not ship until the deal shows as paid.
8. Delivery
- Courier: the seller sends the item and enters the courier and tracking number on the deal. The buyer marks it received when it arrives. If the buyer does not, and the seller has said it was delivered, the check period starts 5 days after the seller's claim.
- Collection: the buyer shows a one-time code on the deal and the seller enters it when handing the item over. The check period starts when the seller enters the code. Never give the code before you have the item in your hands.
- If the seller does not ship or hand the item over within 7 days of the payment being secured, the buyer may cancel the deal and be refunded the money held, less the fee (section 6). Until the seller ships, the buyer may instead keep waiting.
9. The check period and release
- The seller sets how long the buyer has to check the item (between 24 and 72 hours, 48 by default). The time is shown on the deal before you agree.
- During that time the buyer can accept the item, which releases the money to the seller straight away and cannot be undone, orraise a problem (section 10).
- If the check period ends and nothing has been raised, the money is released to the seller automatically. Check the item promptly, and tell us before the time runs out.
10. Problems and disputes
- A buyer can reject an item during the check period for one of these reasons: not received, not as described, damaged, or counterfeit. The buyer must give a reason, say what is wrong, and add at least one photo that shows the problem (not needed for "not received"). While the item is still on its way, the buyer can report it as not received only 5 days after the seller shipped it. The money is frozen while the dispute is open.
- The seller has 48 hours to respond: accept a return, offer a partial refund, or contest it. The two of you can settle with a partial refund agreed in the app.
- If it is not settled within 5 days, it goes to a Credible support agent, who decides one of: release to the seller, refund (after the item is returned, where that applies), or a split. The agent considers the agreed terms, what each person has said, and the evidence given.
- We record every decision with the reasons, the evidence reviewed, who decided and when. Our decision on where the money goes is final for the purposes of the Service. It does not take away any right you have in law to take the matter further.
- If a return is ordered or agreed, the item must be sent back by the return deadline, normally 10 business days from the decision. The buyer sends it, or the seller arranges a collection; whoever books the courier pays for it and adds the tracking on the deal. The refund is not reduced by it. Once the seller has the item, they have 5 days to check it and tell us about any problem; the refund is paid when the return is confirmed. A missed return deadline does not move any money by itself; it goes to support, whose decision then applies.
- Do not give false reasons or false evidence. We may suspend accounts that do.
11. Cancelling and refunds
- Before the buyer pays, either person can cancel the deal.
- After payment, a deal can be cancelled only if both of you agree, or Credible support agrees it should be. The buyer is then refunded, less the fee and the payment fee (section 6).
- Refunds are paid by our escrow partner, on our instruction, by EFT to a verified bank account in the buyer's own name.
12. Paying the seller
- On release, the seller receives the price plus any shipping they are owed, less their share of the fee.
- The seller is paid by our escrow partner, on our instruction, to their verified bank account.
- We pay only into a bank account that has been checked as belonging to the seller. If you change your bank account we may check it again and wait before paying into it, to protect you from account takeover.
- We may delay or hold a payout while we look into fraud, a dispute, a chargeback, or a legal or compliance concern. We will tell you why where the law allows us to.
- You are responsible for giving us the right bank details. The account holder's name must match your verified name. We are not liable if you give us details that are wrong and we pay into that account.
- Payouts are made to your bank by EFT. A payout can take up to 48 hours to reach your bank after the money is released, and longer over weekends and public holidays or because of normal banking delays, which are outside our control.
- If money is owed to you and we cannot pay it out (for example, you have no verified bank account), we keep it for you and tell you what is needed.
- While our escrow partner holds the money, any interest on it belongs to TradeSafe (its terms of use). Neither Credible, the buyer nor the seller is entitled to any of it.
13. How you must behave
You agree not to: describe an item dishonestly; take payment for goods you cannot or will not deliver; pressure someone to pay or hand over a code outside Credible; use the Service to launder money or to avoid a law; abuse or threaten anyone; try to get into another person's account; or interfere with how the Service works. Anything you upload must be yours to share and must not be unlawful. The Service, the Credible name and logo, and our software belong to us or our licensors: you may use the Service as intended, but you may not copy it, reverse engineer it or use our brand without our written permission.
14. Our records
We keep a record of what happens on each deal — its terms, events, messages, photos and uploads, payments and decisions — and we do not change or delete it once written. We use it to run the deal, settle disputes, meet our legal duties, and prevent fraud, and we may give it to the other person in the deal, our escrow, payment and verification partners, a regulator, or a court where the law requires or allows. How long we keep personal information is explained in the Privacy policy.
15. Suspending or closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account, cancel a deal, or hold money, if we reasonably believe you broke these terms, have used the Service to commit or help with fraud or another crime, or if the law requires it. You may close your account at any time once your open deals are finished. Closing it does not affect money already owed, or the records we must keep.
16. Our responsibility
- The Service is provided with reasonable care and "as is". We do not promise it will be free of interruption, error or harmful components, and you use it at your own risk to the extent the law allows.
- Our escrow, payment, bank and verification partners have their own terms for what they do, and those terms apply to you as well.
- Neither of us is responsible for a failure caused by something beyond our control, such as a bank or payment system failing, a power or internet outage, or an event we could not reasonably prevent. Where this delays a payment or release, we will carry it out as soon as we can.
- We are not responsible for the quality, safety, legality or description of goods; for what a courier, bank or payment provider does or fails to do; or for loss caused by you sharing your codes, links or account.
- To the extent the law allows, our liability to you for a deal is limited to the money we hold for that deal and any fee you paid us for it, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
- Nothing in these terms limits a right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or any other law that cannot be limited.
17. Indemnity
You agree to protect us from any claim, loss or cost (including reasonable legal fees) that a third party brings against us because of what you sold, said or uploaded, or because you broke these terms or the law. This clause continues after your account is closed.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service changes. The current version is always on this page, with its date. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect. A change does not alter a deal you have already agreed, which is decided under the terms in force when you agreed it.
19. General
- Electronic agreement. You accept these terms, and agree to each deal, electronically, and that doing so is binding under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. We contact you by SMS, email and notices in the app, using the details you gave us; a notice is treated as received when we send it.
- These terms, the deal you agree to and our Privacy policy are the whole agreement between us. If part of it turns out to be invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up.
- You may not hand your rights or duties under these terms to someone else without our written agreement.
20. Law and complaints
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. If you have a complaint, contact us first (section 21); we will try to resolve it fairly and promptly. If we cannot, you may approach the courts of South Africa or any ombud or regulator that has authority over the matter.
